- You need it for more than a few minutes. A mouth held closed means your dog cannot pant, and panting is how dogs cool themselves
- It is warm out, or your dog will be exercising — that combination is the dangerous one
- Your dog is reactive or anxious — a muzzle manages risk in the moment; the cause is work for your vet or a behaviorist
- You need all-day or off-lead wear — a basket muzzle your dog can pant, drink and take treats through is the right tool. We would rather you bought one of those than this
