In the car: clip a tether to a harness, never a collar, and set the length so your dog cannot reach the footwell. Be clear on what these are — a tether keeps a dog in place; nothing here is crash-tested and we will not imply it is.
Carriers and bags: let your dog explore one open at home for a few days before the first trip, and never leave a dog in a carrier in a parked car.
Water: folding bowls and squeeze bottles. Check the capacity against the day out — 300 ml is a top-up, 550 ml suits a long walk or a big dog.
Long lines are for open ground with no obstacles. Wear gloves, never wrap the line around your hand, and don't let it drag near other dogs.
