How it actually works
- A whistle is a cue, not a command your dog is born understanding. It means nothing until you pair it with something worth coming back for — blow, reward, repeat, on a long line before you ever try it off-lead
- The pitch is adjustable, so set it once and mark the screw. A whistle that sounds different each time is a different cue each time
- Do not use it to punish or startle. A recall cue that sometimes means something unpleasant stops working, and that is difficult to undo
Not the right fit if…
- You are expecting it to stop a behavior on its own — it will not. Ultrasonic pitch is not a control device, whatever the category name suggests
- Your dog has hearing loss — common in older dogs, and a higher pitch is usually the first range to go
- You have not built recall yet — start with a long line and high-value food, and add the whistle once the behavior exists
